Nursing Students’ Council President

Description:

  • voted in (must have sat on NSC as a member for at least 1 year prior)
  • no vote and one voice on NSC, except for in the instance of a tie.
  • coordinator of all NSC activities.
  • advocating and promote the objectives of the Student Body; liaison
  • representing the NSC on School Council and School of Nursing Executive Committee (SONEC) and fulfill all responsibilities according to membership to School Council and the SONEC.
  • sitting on the Undergraduate Programs Committee, Faculty of Health Sciences Committee and Faculty of Health Sciences Students’ Committee
  • submitting an NSC report to each committee meeting.
  • authorizing all expenditures within the budget.
  • participating in general fundraising for the NSC and activities/fundraising for FHSSC; attending a minimum of 3 NSC events and 1 FHSSC event
  • encouraging and enforcing accountability of each individual NSC member
  • submitting a final report to the incoming executive no later than May 1st of the electoral term.
  • holding office hours each week for a minimum of two hours.
  • appointing a Speaker position prior to the fall term
  • and finally….promoting Western and Nursing SPIRIT! :)

Social Commissioner

Description:

  • Give all council members the opportunity to engage in fun social activities and gatherings outside the formal setting of student council meetings. In order to have a successful year is it essential that everyone sees one another as not only fellow council members, but as friends. A tight-knit community where everyone feels comfortable, and accepted ensures that all council initiatives throughout the year run smoothly and successfully.

USC Councillor

(1) Nursing, (2) Kinesiology, (2) Health Studies

Description:

  • Represent the interests of the students in their program and faculty as a whole to the University Students’ Council (USC) and facilitate an exchange of information between the USC, the Faculty of Health Sciences Students’ Council (FHSSC) and their respective program’s students’ council (Kin Students’ Council, Health Studies Students’ Council or Nursing Students’ Council).
  • The role is elected
  • One must complete a form that states you intend to run for election and submit it to the USC Front Desk by the specified date as well as a $25 election bond; elections run for 2 weeks (I think) wherein you can do all you like to appeal to students in the faculty to garner support and votes on the day of the election
  • This position is one of relative independence but requires a great time commitment as one must attend all USC meetings, FHSSC meeting, program council meetings as well as sit on several committees for the USC. Works directly with other USC Councillors, faculty and program councils as a whole (specifically the FHSSC president) and the USC executive in varying degrees

Dream Team Communications Coordinator

Description:

  • Work with the Dream Team in partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation Southwestern Ontario Chapter. The student in this role will oversee the promotion of Make-A-Wish events via Twitter, Facebook, Poster, and Video mediums. It is also the role of the Dream Team Communications Coordinator to maintain communication between the FHSSC, KSC, NSC, HSSC, and Health Sciences Soph Team in relation to all Dream Team fundraisers and events.
  • Non-voting member of the FHSSC
  • Works with the Director, Programming Commissioner, and Volunteer Coordinator of the Dream Team

Description:

  • Attend all meetings and vote on issues or motions brought to the council. Represent the will and opinion of the students in Health Science, bringing important issues and concerns forward to the council.
  • To obtain this position you must fill out a questionnaire on the FHSSC website. After you will have to do an interview with the President and VP of Health Science Student Council. You will be appointed the position after wards.
  • Student at Large works with all other members of council in meetings when addressing issues and voting

Editor of Health Sci Pulse

Description:

  • This role involves publishing at least two issues of the FHSSC newspaper per year, which contain articles of interest to all FHS students.
  • Coordinating article contributions for all council members, as well as individuals in the Western community.
  • Creating each issue of the Health Sci Pulse
  • Managing the production and distribution of the newspaper
  • Attending and participating in council meetings and events
  • This position is appointed. Students interested in the position must complete an application.
  • The Editor of the Pulse works closely with the VP Communications, and also with all other members in the FHSSC.
