TASK FORCE UPDATE

N'Amerind Friendship Centre is looking for volunteers for a new mentoring program. The program aims to match university students with youth (ages 12-17) from the Wiingashk Alternative Secondary School and the Wasa-Naabin program. Mentors and mentees will meet once a week in the afternoon at N'Amerind Friendship Centre and take part in various activities such as sports, crafts, and cultural teachings. Each session will also involve preparing and eating a meal together. The idea is to connect youth with positive role models, to further develop the youths' social and life skills, and to show youth what kinds of opportunities are available in post-secondary education; all in a safe, supportive and fun environment.

If interested, there will be two information sessions for students on Thursday, January 14th to learn more about the program and how to become involved. One session will begin at 12:30pm and another at 5:30pm. The session will last about 30 minutes and snacks will be provided. The sessions will be held on campus in Indigenous Services (located in the new Western Student Services Building). If you have any questions, please contact Melissa Schnarr at mschnarr@namerind.on.ca or Julie Peters at jpeters5@uwo.ca.
